Imperialism- the extended rule over foreign countries
The four main reasons for imperialism are economic interest, military needs, ideology (social darwinism), and a scramble for territory.
Sphere of influence- an area that one nation wields dominant power over another or other ones
Protectorate- a relation of a strong state toward a weak state or territory that they control some of and they protect
Germany's Coat of Arms
Germany was annoyed by imperialism because Britain and France was competing with them to get some of Africa's land. They also had problems like everyone else so they dealt with it. The imperialism is spread throughout Europe and it affected everyone and Germany also affected Africa with their imperialism. It was during the nineteenth century that imperialism took charge and control over a lot of countries. By 1815, it had gone on for over four hundred years. Britain and France's imperialism was greater than Germany's because they had more land than Germany did. The imperialism brought economic expansion. Germany saw the expansion as a sign of greatness. Some of Germany's imperial ambitions were like older colonial powers and were moved by varities of aims, like commercial penetration, military glory, and diplomatic advantage. They built "trading empires" in Africa for resources and commerce with the lands that were already developed. Their ideas were brought up by "the white man's burden. They had to expand so that they could survive. Their imperialism affected everyone, especially Africa.
